The Story of Mother Nurture
Having a baby is so much more than a one-day experience. For almost a year the
baby grows inside his mother – rocking with her movement and being lulled to
sleep by her strong heartbeat. While all is calm and quiet on the inside,
outside the mother makes the preparations to meet her baby; we call this
nesting.
When we nest, we work to get things in order, like the mother bird preparing for
her hatchlings. Some of these are physical tasks – visiting our care provider,
or choosing necessary pregnancy and baby gear. Some of these tasks are done
mentally, such as reading childbirth books or sharing our worries and asking for
helpful advice from friends and family.
Mother Nurture was conceived by Debbie Pierce, RN, IBCLC, because she saw a need
in the community. As a mother, grandmother, and professional, she knows
first-hand the value of support in the life of a new mother, baby, and family.
Debbie’s vision grew into Mother Nurture – a place where women can find support
and more. Whether a woman needs an essential item, like a well-fitted bra, or
something more unique like a belly-casting kit, Mother Nurture is stocked and
our staff is ready to help.
But good support is more than just a comfortable, flattering bra! Prior to
birth, and then with your new baby, it is important to find that protective
support network of wise women who can help you find your own way as a mother;
Mother Nurture’s “Milky Way Café” is a great place to start. Sometimes a woman
has a tremendous need for more, and expert breast feeding support and guidance
are available by appointment with a Registered Lactation Consultant.
At Mother Nurture, our hope is that expectant and new parents will feel they
have found a sanctuary as they move through the exciting, challenging, eventful
first year with their baby.
