Lactation Consultation: Office or Home Visits

Although breastfeeding is a natural process, it isn’t always easy. Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), highly-trained and qualified to assist with all aspects of breastfeeding, provides the expert help you need to make breastfeeding a joyful experience for you and your baby.

We can help you gain confidence with positioning, latch and milk production. We can assist you with a variety of issues, including sore nipples, engorgement, slow weight gain, fussiness, breast surgery, twins, preemies, adoptive nursing, choosing a breast pump, and returning to work.

Prenatal Consults

Sometimes a prenatal consult is needed for concerns you have before your baby’s birth, or to help you prepare for breastfeeding and avoid common problems. Especially recommended for a woman with a history of breast surgery or medical conditions. Reports are sent to care providers as needed. The cost for a prenatal consult is $45.

Initial Consults

For new patients, includes a history of mother and baby, comprehensive assessment of infant’s suck and mother’s breasts, complete feeding evaluation, age-appropriate teaching of breastfeeding and infant development, demonstration of specialized techniques or equipment, and care plan to improve effectiveness and comfort of breastfeeding. Afterwards, reports are sent to the midwife or obstetrician and pediatrician for continuity of care. In your home or at Mother Nurture, initial consults typically last 1 1/2-2 hours. We watch the baby, not the clock, so if the consult goes over this time, you are not charged. The cost is $125 (home), $100 (office).

Follow-up Consults

Sometimes a mom and baby need to be seen again, often when telephone support is not enough. The cost for a follow up visit is $95 (home), $75 (office).

The Pump Consultation

We can help you learn to use your new breastpump. We can also trouble-shoot and check the suction on your pump to make sure it is working properly, and check the flange sizing to assure the correct fit. If you purchase your pump from Mother Nurture this service is free for as long as you have the pump! The cost for a Pump Consultation is $20.

Weight Checks

In-home weight checks are available for a fee of $20. All results are sent to the infant's physician.
